South Staffordshire PCT

SS-PCT is committed to this partnership because reducing crime actually improves health and reduces health inequalities. Crime and health are linked both directly and indirectly and all the priorities currently identified have an impact on health. SS-PCT will be working within the partnership to reduce health inequalities and improve public health.

SS-PCT will be commissioning services for the identification, referral and treatment of individuals with drug and alcohol problems, which will include working with those individuals by providing brief health interventions to encourage them to address their behaviour.

We will also be developing more effective prison health care  and links with community provision for primary care and the treatment of mental health problems, drug and alcohol dependence, and other chronic ill health problems prevalent among prisoners. This will initially be addressed by the new NHS Health Trainers Programme which is been piloted in Stafford and Drake Hall prisons.

In addition we will be working with our partners to reduce the demand on NHS services from crime, alcohol or drug related ill health.
