Business Crime Task Group

Business Crime is on the increase. When we say business crime you may think of the theft of a laptop from an office, no one gets hurt, the company is insured so what’s the problem?

The problem is that people do get hurt and every single occurrence of business crime is detrimental to us all, reducing profitability, increasing fear of crime and even threatening the survival of many businesses.

Maybe your business has been affected by business crime in the past and you want to do something about it. Maybe you are lucky enough never to have experienced a business crime but realise that it may only be a matter of time and you want to be proactive in the prevention of such an event.

Business Against Retail Crime in Stafford and Stone

BARCS

BARCS is helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour within the town centres of Stafford and Stone
Retail and licensed businesses have joined together to combat and actively reduce all aspects of crime and inappropriate behaviour.

There is information sharing agreements between BARCS, Stafford Borough Council and Staffordshire police.
Members are linked directly to town centre CCTV centres by personal radio, delivering real time assistance and direct access to Police staff.

Members have access to information and images of offenders who persistently offend. A managed civil exclusion process is also part of the scheme, which allows the information to be used by all staff to reduce further incidents of crime or poor behaviour.

The partnership is proven to reduce criminal activity, protecting staff from acts of physical violence and verbal abuse. It can reduce stock losses, generate an improvement in the environment, creating a safe place to live, shop, work and visit.
Andy Machin, the crime manager for the scheme, can be contacted on 01785 619588 to discuss the scheme and  the options available to all of the town centre business communities.
